Accessibility statement
We want this website to be usable by everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or reduced-motion settings.
Standard we target
This website is built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Conformance was assessed by the development team during the rebuild using automated checks and manual keyboard, structure and contrast testing. It has not yet been independently audited.
What we have done
- Every page has one meaningful level-1 heading and a logical heading order.
- Decorative photographs are marked as decorative, so assistive technology skips them silently instead of reading out a filename.
- The site is fully operable with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator and a skip-to-content link.
- Colour combinations were tested against WCAG AA contrast thresholds. The brand yellow is only used with black text.
- Motion is minimal, and all transitions are disabled for visitors who set a reduced-motion preference.
- Forms have visible labels, described errors and no reliance on colour alone.
- Content reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels and at 200% zoom.
- Every page declares its language, and translated pages are linked with correct language alternates.
Known limitations
- Photographs on this site are published without individual alternative text and are marked as decorative, so screen readers pass over them rather than announcing a filename. Every photograph accompanies text that describes the same activity, so no information is available only in an image. This is a known departure from WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 and we state it here rather than claim otherwise. Functional images, the logo and the European Union emblem, do carry text alternatives.
- PDF documents published by EU projects and partner organisations are outside our control and may not be fully accessible. Where a PDF is not accessible we will supply the content in another format on request.
- Content hosted on third-party project platforms is not covered by this statement.
