Roma Rights in Action: Combating Antigypsyism through Artificial Intelligence and Community Empowerment
RomaRights tackles antigypsyism across Europe by combining artificial intelligence, community empowerment and advocacy. The project develops a multilingual RomaRights AI assistant that helps Roma individuals and organisations report discrimination, generate complaint forms adapted to national legal frameworks, and connect with equality bodies and civil society organisations for follow-up support.
Why this project
Roma communities across Europe continue to face structural discrimination, and reporting mechanisms remain fragmented, hard to navigate and rarely available in community languages. Awareness of rights seldom translates into concrete complaints or redress.
Objectives
- Turn awareness of rights into concrete reporting and redress through an accessible multilingual tool.
- Strengthen the digital and advocacy capacities of Roma communities and the organisations that support them.
- Consolidate anonymised discrimination data into an EU-aligned monitoring framework.
- Deliver evidence-based policy recommendations to national and European institutions.
Activities
- Five national focus groups (10 participants each) to identify needs and shape the design of the tool.
- Five public panels (30 participants each) bringing together Roma communities, civil society and policymakers.
- Five national training workshops (20 participants each) on digital and advocacy skills.
- Engagement of at least 50 civil society organisations through memoranda of cooperation.
Expected results
These are the results the project set out to produce. They are commitments made in the application, not outcomes already achieved.
- The RomaRights AI assistant, released as an open-source resource.
- A Roma Discrimination Monitoring Report based on consolidated anonymised data.
- Ten policy recommendations addressed to national and European institutions.
- Open-access training materials for organisations working on Roma rights.
